Wildcat Creek Fish Passage & Community Engagement Project Featured in Bay Nature

One of our high-visibility projects recently had positive press regarding its ongoing collaborative transformation in Richmond, CA at Wildcat Creek. As the primary engineer on the fish passage design, FlowWest is deeply committed to restoring this vital waterway; from its origins in the Berkeley Hills to its confluence with San Pablo Bay the creek meanders through Alvarado Park, Wildcat Canyon Regional Park and essentially bisects Richmond and San Pablo, CA. The article eloquently captures the challenges faced by Wildcat Creek, from urban encroachment to environmental degradation, while highlighting the transformative potential of recent initiatives.

Alongside such partners as Contra Costa Flood Control & Conservation District, The Watershed Project, Mithun, and Trout Unlimited, is spearheading efforts to improve habitat conditions for native fish species like steelhead. A $1 million grant funded through the CA Department of Water Resources funded FlowWest’s design efforts. This comprehensive approach not only aims to enhance ecological integrity but also seeks to create safer and more accessible spaces for the local community through an adjacent park revitalization. It underscores the importance of community engagement in shaping the future of Wildcat Creek, emphasizing a collaborative approach that prioritizes both environmental and social well-being.

With 90% designs recently completed, this project is progressing steadily. The return of salmon and steelhead to Wildcat Creek can’t come soon enough. FlowWest is honored to be part of this transformative journey and look forward to continuing the partnership with the local community to ensure a thriving future for Wildcat Creek.
