FlowWest presented at California Environmental Flows Workgroup

The team at FlowWest was excited to have presented at the California Environmental Flows Workgroup this week, where they shared their work on the Interoperable Flows Project. The main focus of this project is creating accessible, interoperable datasets that streamline the development of flow scenarios for salmonid restoration and habitat projects in the Central Valley. Presenting at this Workgroup allowed the team to build the connection with other projects and coordination outcomes moving forward. Our employees that presented included Co-Founder and Engineering Geomorphologist Mark Tompkins, Senior Data Scientist Emanuel Rodriguez, and Staff Scientist Skyler Lewis.

With support from the Metropolitan Water District and Reclamation WaterSMART, the Interoperable Flows Project aims to expand surface water flow and temperature modeling capabilities to better support salmonid restoration planning in the Central Valley. By leveraging existing models and techniques, the project will develop new tools to enhance flow data resolution (both spatially and temporally) and make flow data more accessible and reusable.

Thank you to the California Water Quality Monitoring Council for hosting the California Environmental Flows Workgroup Meeting.
