The City of Oakland has been working on a community-driven creek restoration project that will improve three daylighted sections of Courtland Creek, within Courtland Creek Park. The Courtland Creek Restoration Project (Project), an Oakland Measure DD Initiative, will protect, enhance, and restore approximately 950 feet of open creek channel.
FlowWest has been busy over the last several weeks with project’s construction phase in full swing. FlowWest, in collaboration with an amazing team including Restoration Design Group, Alnus Ecological, Haley & Aldrich, and Circlepoint, has helped move the project to implementation from the conceptual design stage.
The Project goals include increased creek habitat and water quality, reduced trash accumulation and illegal dumping, repaired steep and eroding creek banks, and enhanced climate change resilience and park appearance. Post-construction, the park will better serve the community as an educational and recreational resource. Accessible seating, gathering places, and a creek-viewing overlook will also be provided. When finished, the Project will have transformed a creek choked by overgrown ivy and Eucalyptus into a native Oak woodland with a boulder cascade and overlook area for the community.
FlowWest will continue to apply our creek-restoration construction management expertise to keep the Project moving this summer.
